Mrs. Margaret Jackson Tucker, 85, of Nashville, TN, formerly of Gastonia, NC, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2023.

She was born December 3, 1937, in Clover, SC, to the late Martin Edward and Edith Bell Jackson.

Mrs. Tucker is survived by her daughters, Beth McKenzie (Ken), Nashville, TN, and Patricia Mathis, Stockton, CA; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Aquirre and great granddaughter Amaya Elizabeth Aquirre, Stockton, CA; her sisters, Evelyn Pendleton, Clover, SC and Docia Dixon, Monroe, NC; and her sisters-in-law, Judy Jackson, Ocala, FL, and Naomi Jackson, Las Vegas, NV.  She was preceded in death by her sisters, Dorothy Little and Rebecca Adams, and her brothers, Marshall Jackson and Edward Jackson.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 24, 2023, in Forest Lawn West Cemetery, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC.

Elkins, Virgil, age 94, of Mt. Juliet, TN died May 19, 2023. Virgil was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Barbara “Bobbie” Love Elkins and his grandson, Ryan Mudry.

He is survived by:

Twohig, Timothy Michael, age 67, of Crossville, TN died May 20, 2023. Tim was born in Chicago, IL and was the son of the late, William Francis Twohig, Jr. and Veronica Madden Twohig. He was a retired Captain with the U.S. Marine Corps. Tim was a member of Cumberland Fellowship in Crossville, TN and Faith Lutheran Church in Lebanon, TN. He was also preceded in death by his son, Richard Twohig. Tim lived a life of service; that was his calling. AA Sponsorship, Marines, praise and worship member, church accompanist, Grief Share leader, coach to city-league baseball and football, greeting cards for every occasion, gift giving, pounding the pavement for his favorite organizations, mentorship to tweens and teens through Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Kids on the Rise, feeding/helping secure homes and furnishings for the homeless through Compassionate Hands and The Storehouse. There are literally thousands of people who have been impacted by his touch on their lives and his ability to ALWAYS see the good and give unconditional love no matter where you come from, who you are or what you believe. That is his legacy. Service. You will be missed.

Brother – William (Kathy) Twohig

A Celebration of Life service, with full military honors, will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, May 27, 2023 at Faith Lutheran Church, 1655 W. Main Street, Lebanon, TN with Pastor Matthew Steinhauer officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. – 12 noon. Honorary pallbearers will be Alex Berghoff, Ryan Berghoff, Aaron Berghoff, Finley Twohig, Michael Lashlee, Stuart Ruis and Jeff Twohig.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Compassionate Hands, Kids on the Rise, Wounded Warrior or Smoky Mountain Service Dogs.

Ayres, Kent Allen, age 80, of Mt. Juliet, TN went to be with the Lord on May 19, 2023. Kent was born in Peru, IN and was the son of the late, Hoyt Ayres and Vera Spranger Ayres. He was a veteran and First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and a member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Juliet. Kent enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling and cooking. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Nyla Lebsack.

He is survived by:

Wife – Deanna “Dee” Ayres

Children – Laura (Ralph) Gutman, Andrea (Rob) DeCook, Chris Oxford and Kari Oxford

Grandchildren – Jennifer Gutman, Rachel Gutman, Dylan Drzal, Brady Drzal,

                       Karli Oxford-Jordan and Kalei Oxford

Goodall, Stephen, age 61, of Old Hickory, TN died May 22, 2023. Stephen loved fishing and working at the Double E Bar and Grill. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Margaret Goodall, and sister Kellye Burgess.

Roberts, Debra Charlene, age 65, of Old Hickory, TN died May 28, 2023. Debra was born in Richmond, IN and was the daughter of the late, Earnest Gaston, Jr. and Freida Rose Buttery Gaston. She enjoyed painting, yard sales, flea markets, and watching scary movies. Debra was also preceded in death by her siblings, Gary Lee Gaston, Tammy Jean McCoy and Terry Gaston.

She is survived by:

Husband of 36 years – David Roberts

Children – William Earnest Townsend and Pamela Dawn Parker

Brother – Gerald Gaston

Sister – Bonnie Carlin

Johnston, Brent Owen, It is with immense sadness but with trust in the promise of the Resurrection that we announce the death of Brent Owen Johnston, May 26, 2023, age 65, in Mount Juliet, Tennessee, following a battle with pancreatic cancer. A Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, August 10, 2023 at Lebanon First Presbyterian Church, 304 W. Main Street, Lebanon, TN.

 

Brent was born April 1, 1958 in Charlotte, North Carolina, to Harvey and Roberta Johnston. He was a twin, the middle child of five (siblings: Eric, Robin, Kurt, Amy).

 

A lifelong scholar, he graduated from Providence Day High School in 1976 and held degrees from North Carolina State (BA, 1981) Union Seminary of Richmond, Virginia (DMin, 1986), Columbia Seminary of Decatur, GA (ThM, 1997) and the University of Aberdeen (PhD in Divinity, Bonhoeffer Studies, 2022).

 

He was a dedicated minister of Word and Sacrament for the Presbyterian Church (USA), for over thirty-five years, most recently serving as Pastor/Head of Staff at First Presbyterian Church of Wichita, Kansas. He also pastored Benton Heights Presbyterian Church of Monroe, North Carolina, as well as the First Presbyterian Church of Aurora, Colorado and the First Presbyterian Church of Lincoln, Nebraska.

 

Brent was passionate about the radical gospel of Jesus. He loved to mentor others and advise struggling congregations. He was generous with his time, encouraging and wise. He felt called to urban ministry, readily building relationships in the community.

 

Brent was devoted to Catherine, his wife of 25 years. Their children, Andrew and Emma, gave him immense joy and he was so proud of all their accomplishments.

 

Brent loved to travel, particularly to Europe and the British Isles, always hoping for a beach, a game of golf, a plate of seafood and a good glass of Scotch.

 

Donations can be made in Brent’s memory to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network

(PanCAN), the University of Aberdeen, or World Central Kitchen.
